A referendum to end Collingswood’s dry status will be on the ballot this fall.
If the referendum passes, it would allow restaurants and businesses in Collingswood to sell alcohol.
Whichever way the referendum goes will have to remain in effect for at least five years before another referendum is put on the ballot.
NBC10 was in Collingswood on Tuesday and nearly everyone we asked along main street was in favor of ending the dry streak.
“The BYOB industry is changing,” said Franco Lombardo, the owner of Sapori Trattoria Italiana. “We are going through a generational change of clientele. The younger generations are more into cocktails, and maybe a beer or glass of wine. The whole idea of driving to a liquor store, park the car, choose a bottle of wine, drive again to a BYOB is too much work for the newer generations.”
Town leaders said they plan on holding information sessions on the referendum before people head to the polls.
